US: Adding Russia to the list of countries that support terrorism may have unintended results
US Secretary of State Blinken answered questions at a session on the Department’s 2024 budget in the Senate Appropriations Committee Subcommittee on Foreign Affairs, Foreign Operations, and Related Programs.
Making assessments of the global food crisis around the world, Blinken said the US continues to provide financial support to the World Food Program to be used for global food needs.
Describing Ukraine as “the breadbasket of the world,” Blinken said that because of the war between Russia and Ukraine, the country’s grain exports were interrupted and this situation aggravated the world food crisis.
Blinken said: “I am pleased to return to the Black Sea Grain Corridor Agreement with the efforts of the United Nations and Turkey. But that is also a fragile thing. (Grain broker) Made a difference, but brittle.” he said.
FOCUS AGAINST PUTIN
Recalling that the International Criminal Court (ICC) issued an arrest warrant for Russian President Vladimir Putin on charges of “commission of war crimes” in Ukraine, Blinken said: “We have to look at the law. I must, I cannot say anything about The Front. More importantly, as you know, we are not part of the ICC. So I don’t want to get into this hypothetical issue.” he gave the answer.
Stating that Putin has no plans to come to the US, Blinken said: “Everyone who is part of the court must fulfill their obligations.” he performed the assessment of it.
The ICC announced that, as part of its investigation into crimes committed in Ukraine, an arrest warrant was issued for Russian President Putin and Russia’s Commissioner for Children’s Rights, Maria Alekseyevna Lvova-Belova, for “war crimes “.
“MAY HAVE UNINTENDED CONSEQUENCES”
Asked by a senator if Russia was working to add him to the list of “states that support terrorism,” Blinken recalled that they have come up with a wide variety of sanctions against Russia.
“We have very different sanctions for Russian war crimes and atrocities. I think that adding it to the list of states that support terrorism may bring possible undesirable consequences.” he said.
Noting that they took all reasonable measures against Moscow, the US minister said: “We need to talk about adding it to the list of states that support terrorism. There are better ways to achieve the same result.” he commented he.
CHINA-RUSSIA RELATIONS
Recalling a visit to Moscow by a senator, Chinese President Xi Jinping, “Do you describe the relationship between Russia and China as a marriage of interests or a strategic alliance?” Blinken responded: “You can say it’s a combination of the two. If you remember, there was already a partnership between them. They met just before the Russian (Ukraine) attack and talked about a ‘partnership without borders.’” he replied he.
Stating that China provided diplomatic, political and material support to Russia to a certain extent, Blinken said that the Beijing administration’s supply of arms to Russia would have serious consequences.
ISRAEL-PALESTINE TENSION
The approval by the Israeli Assembly of the law that would reopen the 4 illegal Jewish settlements in the occupied West Bank, which was evacuated in 2005, was also on the session’s agenda.
After US, Jordanian, Egyptian, Palestinian and Israeli delegations agreed to de-escalate Israel-Palestinian tension in Sharm al-Sheikh, Egypt, the Israeli Assembly’s decision was called a violation of the deal by a senator .
Asked by the Senator what the US would do about it, Blinken said: “I don’t want to speculate where it will lead[la resolución de la Cámara]or what the US will do. I can tell that both the Israeli government and the Palestinian Authority wanted us to be involved in working with them to ensure this smooth process. If one or both parties do not do what we all believe is necessary, it will be difficult or useless for us to do it (mediation)”. made his assessment.
Blinken reiterated that the parties must do their part. (AA)
