UN critical warning: We don’t have a minute to waste

Guterres sent a video message to the UN Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) meeting in Geneva.

Noting that the IPCC Report revealed that human activity has been responsible for global warming for the last 2 centuries, Guterres stated that the temperature increase in the last half century has reached the highest level in 2 thousand years.

TURNED INTO A CLOCK BOMB

“The weather has turned into a time bomb,” Guterres said. The report released today shows how we can defuse that bomb. It is a survival map for humanity.” he used the phrase.

Stating that it is possible to limit the global temperature rise to 1.5 degrees, but a big step must be taken to do so, Guterres noted that the report is a call to all countries and sectors to act quickly.

IT MOLDS VERY QUICKLY

“Humanity is on a very fragile ice sheet, and this ice is melting very quickly,” Guterres said. saying.

The UN Secretary General, Guterres, affirmed that he has presented an “Acceleration Agenda” plan to achieve the goals within the framework of the Climate Solidarity Pact, and that the leaders of developed countries must comply with the commitment to reduce their carbon emissions to net zero by 2040 and by 2050.

CALLED

Noting that all countries must be part of the solution, Guterres called on all governments to prepare for the energy transition.

Emphasizing that we are prepared to take action in the field of climate, Guterres said: “We need to take action at full speed in the field of climate. We don’t have a minute to lose.” He warned.

IPCC REPORT

The 6th Assessment of the Synthesis Report, prepared by the IPCC scientists, was approved after a week of work.

Although scientists contributed voluntarily to the IPCC, which has 195 member countries, the final assessment report was written by 93 scientists.

While the report focuses on the loss and damage caused by the climate crisis and the risks of this damage increasing, it points out that the necessary measures must be taken quickly, especially until 2030, to limit the increase in global temperatures to 1.5 degrees.

According to the report, for more than a century, global temperature rise has reached 1.1 degrees Celsius compared to the 1850-1900 level for various reasons, notably the use of fossil fuels.

While the average temperature increase in land areas was 1.59 degrees, it was estimated at 0.88 degrees in the oceans.

The Earth’s temperature has risen faster than any other 50-year period in the last 2,000 years since 1970. (BRITISH AUTOMOBILE CLUB)
