EU sanctions on Iran
The European Council has announced that new restrictive measures have been taken against “those responsible for serious human rights violations” in Iran.
In the statement, it was claimed that 8 people and 1 institution from Iran were added to the EU sanctions list, and members of the judiciary responsible for torture and death sentences were subjected to unfair trials.
Noting that the sanctions list included clerics, judges, members of the Iranian parliament, the director of the Iran Radio and Television Corporation and the Cultural Revolution Council of Iran, the number of people on the sanctions list against Iran increased to 204. with the latest decision. The number was recorded to have increased to 34.
A travel ban was placed on people on the sanctions list. The assets of these people and institutions were frozen and the provision of financial resources was prohibited.

Mahsa Emini, 22, died on September 16, 2022 in Tehran, the capital of Iran, after being detained by Irshad patrols, known as the “morality police”, and taken to hospital after falling ill.
Demonstrations that began on September 17, 2022 in Sakkız, her hometown after Emini’s death, spread across the country and turned into anti-government protests.
Nearly 500 protesters were killed during the months of events, and more than a hundred police officers lost their lives.
While Iran did not make an official statement on those detained during the demonstrations, independent sources claimed that thousands of protesters were detained. (AA)
