The crowd, which carried flags and banners of the General Union of Labor (CGT), called on Ciotti and his group, on the way to his office, to support the question of censorship.

The group, which chanted “49-3 undemocratic” slogans, reacted to Prime Minister Elisabeth Borne’s decision to put the reform bill into force using Article 49 paragraph 3 of the Constitution without putting it to a vote in parliament. on March 16. On the other hand, according to the French press, the support of 267 deputies has materialized, the vast majority made up of parties of the extreme right and left.

A total of 287 votes of the deputies are required for the motion of no confidence to be approved in the national assembly, which will cause the fall of the government.

While the far-right National Unity (RN) party, the broad opposition Nupes alliance and some independent lawmakers announced they would support the vote of no confidence, the Republicans said they “did not want to be involved in scenarios of chaos.” citing the protests.

This attitude of the republicans was met with the reaction of the opponents of the reform, the office of President Ciotti in Nice was attacked the day before.

CRITICAL DAY

In France, the National Assembly will discuss 2 motions of no confidence against the government. If one of the motions wins the votes of 287 lawmakers, Prime Minister Elisabeth Borne will have to submit her resignation to President Emmanuel Macron.

If the no-confidence motions do not get enough votes, the controversial pension reform bill will finally be approved.

Massive protests have been taking place across the country since March 16 over the government’s decision to pass the bill, which increases the retirement age by 2 years, without a vote.

Police have detained almost 500 of the demonstrators taking part in the protests so far. (AA)
