Germany’s economic security movement
Prime Minister Kishida met with German Chancellor Scholz in the capital Tokyo. The two leaders held a joint press conference after the meeting, which lasted 50 minutes.
In his speech here, Scholz said that both countries are ready to learn the correct lessons from economic dependencies brought about by global crises such as Covid-19 and the Russia-Ukraine War.
He also affirmed that the two countries will increase their cooperation for the protection and strengthening of a free international order based on the rule of law.
Stating that they want to increase their influence in strategic areas such as semiconductors, chips and batteries, Kisida noted that they will share their experience in establishing durable supply chains.
In the joint statement made on the meeting, it was noted that the two countries agreed to strengthen cooperation for economic security and establish a legal framework for bilateral defense cooperation activities.
In addition, Kishida and Scholz agreed to maintain tough sanctions against Russia, which continues its attacks on Ukraine, and to maintain strong support for Ukraine. (AA)
