The issues have already been fixed by Google with a recent security update for Pixel phones. Samsung itself will have to provide a software update for devices that use the modem. Popular Samsung Galaxy S22, Galaxy A53 and A33 devices, among others, are not adequately protected from hackers. The Chinese Vivo also sells various devices with the modem and therefore has to find a solution to the problem.
Vulnerable
These are the so-called Exynos modems. Eighteen hitherto unknown vulnerabilities were discovered late last year and early this year. Four of these issues allow hackers to gain access to phones. Google researchers expect hackers to quickly find a way to exploit vulnerabilities.
Users of the affected devices can make calls themselves over Wi-Fi and disable Voice-over-LTE. This fixes issues with vulnerabilities, but users lose device functions.
