Finnish President: I’m sure Erdogan has important messages
Finnish President Sauli Niinistö said he believes President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan has important messages at the bilateral meeting tomorrow.
Niinistö visited Karacasu Container City, which was established in Kahramanmaraş, the epicenter of the February 6 earthquakes.
Niinistö, who received information about the possibilities in the city from the Coordinating Governor, Ağrı Governor Osman Varol, also talked with the citizens living in the container city.
Making a statement to reporters after the visit to the container city, Niinistö said President Erdogan’s statement on Finland’s NATO membership: “We will do our part, we will keep our promise.” He answered a question about his words.
Recalling that he will meet with President Erdoğan tomorrow, Niinistö said: “Tomorrow we will have more information on this topic. I have known Erdogan for a long time. I am sure that (Erdogan) has important messages.” He used the phrases.
To a question about whether Finland and Sweden will carry out their NATO membership separately, Niinistö gave the following answer:
“We are not advancing alone, but it seems that we can become members. Because Finland did everything expected. She applied for NATO membership and we had negotiations with the Turkish government that started in Madrid. I think we have done everything necessary. We are now waiting for approval.”
After the container city, Niinistö also visited the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), where the Finnish search and rescue team is located, received information from the authorities and conducted investigations in the field. (AA)
