Great strike against the train accident in Greece
Tens of thousands of workers went on strike today to protest the train accident in Greece that killed at least 57 people.
The unions, which blame the government’s negligence for the February 28 train accident, have been protesting against the government by organizing strikes for days. The private sector and public unions also support the organized strike today.
Public institutions and schools remained closed today due to the strike. The strike, supported by taxi drivers and subway workers, paralyzed transportation. Many flights were also cancelled.
A statement made by the unions called for a transparent and thorough investigation into the accident, saying: “We will not allow this issue to be covered up and those responsible to avoid prosecution.”
Anger over the train accident in the country, which is scheduled to hold elections in May, has also led to a decline in support for Prime Minister Kiriakos Mitsotakis.
