Critical talks between Turkey and the US
Presidential Spokesperson İbrahim Kalın met with US National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan at the White House and US Under Secretary of State for Political Affairs Victoria Nuland at the State Department from the US as part of his visit to Washington.
In the interviews; Bilateral political and economic relations, earthquakes in Turkey, cooperation in the defense industry, energy security, the fight against terrorism, the accession processes of Sweden and Finland to NATO, the Russia-Ukraine war, the South Caucasus and Azerbaijan-Armenia evaluated topics of the negotiation process.
During the meetings, satisfaction was expressed with the support and solidarity shown by the US and the international community to Turkey during the earthquake disaster, and it was stated that Turkey is continuing its efforts to quickly improve and rebuild the earthquake area.
TURKEY-US RELATIONS SPOKEN
During the meeting, the strategic dimension of the relations between Turkey and the United States was emphasized and the importance of the two allied countries maintaining their cooperation in global and regional affairs on the basis of mutual respect and interest was mentioned.
It was indicated that facilitation measures should be taken so that the volume of bilateral trade reaches the goal of 100 billion dollars. The focus was on deepening the scope of cooperation in the field of defense industry without any preconditions.
THE RUSSIAN-UKRAINE WAR AND NATO…
It was stressed that Turkey supports NATO’s open door policy in principle, and that the fulfillment of the commitments of Sweden and Finland under the Tripartite Agreement will speed up the process.
While it was noted that the prolongation of the Russia-Ukraine war deepened regional and global instability, it was stated that Turkey would continue its diplomatic efforts to find a solution. Attention was also drawn to Turkey’s role in extending the grain shipment agreement.
It was stressed that Turkey will continue to fight resolutely against all terrorist organizations, including PKK/PYD/YPG, ISIS and FETO.
