Serbian President: We will not recognize the independence of Kosovo

Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic said they will not recognize Kosovo’s independence de facto and legally.

As part of his tour of Serbia, which started today, Vucic visited the Pcinja region in the southeast of the country and met the Serbian people. Addressing the public in the city of Vranje, which lies within the region’s borders, Vucic addressed the issue of Kosovo.

“I will not sign the independence of Kosovo. no surrender We will not recognize the independence of Kosovo either de facto or legally. Speaking clearly about the “Movement of the People for the State”, which has been on the agenda of the country’s media recently, Vucic said: “We are establishing the Movement of the People for the State in late May or early June. I want the people of Vranje to be included in this formation for the future of our children”.

Emphasizing that the new political formation to be established does not mean “the closure of the Serbian Progressive Party (SNS), which he leads,” Vucic said: “In the current world order, the people who are part of the parties and those who are no, it is necessary that they unite. We must unite against what awaits us”. He made his assessment. Vucic reiterated his call on the public to reflect on the issue and get involved in this great “Movement of the People for the State”.

Serbia considers Kosovo, which unilaterally declared its independence in 2008, its territory. Serbia and Kosovo, which regularly clash, are trying to find a common path for the normalization of relations and, ultimately, for the two countries to recognize each other, within the framework of the Belgrade-Pristina Dialogue Process, which began in 2011 under the mediation of the European Union (EU).

The EU announced that the new meeting of the Belgrade-Pristina Dialogue between Serbia and Kosovo will take place on March 18 in Ohrid, North Macedonia. (AA)
