Comprehensive meeting between the EU and Biden
European Union (EU) Commission Ursula Von der Leyen stated that they discussed many issues with US President Joe Biden, stating that their meeting was “very constructive.”
After meeting with US President Joe Biden, Von der Leyen answered questions from journalists at the White House. Von der Leyen, whose jacket has a ribbon in the colors of the Ukrainian flag and a small European flag in the middle, said they had a “very constructive” meeting with Biden.
Von der Leyen stated that they also discussed the support given to Ukraine during the meeting and stated that they also discussed the issues related to Ukrainian refugees as well as the financial support given to Ukraine.
Von der Leyen said that they also discussed the sanctions imposed on Russia and that they discussed the steps to take to prevent the sanctions from being exceeded. Von der Leyen stated that they gave the message that they “will support Ukraine no matter how long it takes” during the meeting.
Von der Leyen stated that they also discussed topics such as the Inflation Reduction Act and the transition to a green economy, stating that they reached an important agreement regarding critical raw materials supplied or processed in the EU today. The president of the European Commission said that he and Biden agreed to a transparency dialogue on the incentives given to the cleantech industry. Von der Leyen stated that they discussed the importance of strengthening ties between the peoples of the two sides, as well as economic security, with US President Biden, and stated that they discussed academic scholarship programs in this context.
Von der Leyen pointed out that the Serbia-Kosovo dialogue was also on the agenda during the meeting, and that there are still many problems to be solved in this regard, but that progress is being made in the right direction. Von der Leyen emphasized that they fully support this dialogue.
When asked about US warnings about the possibility of China supplying weapons to Russia, von der Leyen replied: “I think this is a bilateral issue between the countries involved.” The EU Commission President claimed that they had a very productive exchange with Biden in his Twitter posts regarding the meeting, adding the phrase “The transatlantic partnership is getting stronger”.
