Armenia at odds with CSTO security organization

Armenia withdrew from the post of Deputy Secretary General of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO).

According to news from Armenia’s official news agency Armenpress, Foreign Ministry spokesman Vahan Hunanyan announced that Armenia has officially relinquished its Deputy Secretary General quota in the organization.

Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan stated that they did not find the CSTO exercise planned to be held in Armenia due to the conflict with Azerbaijan on January 10 “appropriate” and refused to hold it on the country’s territory. The Armenian administration accused the CSTO of being passive during the Second Karabakh War and of not providing sufficient support to Armenia.

The CSTO, which was established by the member states of the Commonwealth of Independent States at the initiative of the Moscow administration, consists of Russia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Armenia.

The Pashinyan administration agreed with the European Union (EU) to establish an EU Monitoring Mission after the Second Karabakh War.

The EU Mission in Armenia (EUMA), which was officially established on January 23, is observing a part of the front line with Azerbaijan. (AA)
