Behind-the-Scenes Insights: Highlights On Six Table’s Attitude Towards HDP
One month after the earthquake that struck Turkey, the status of the HDP is still under discussion after the Nation Alliance rallied behind CHP leader Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu and declared him a presidential candidate.
Speaking to the UK-based Reuters news agency, senior Nation Alliance officials made differing statements about the HDP’s approach. Speaking to Reuters, a senior member of the alliance said: “Supporting the HDP may reduce the votes of the nationalist IYI party and the conservative Felicity Party.”
The Nation Alliance introduced Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu as its presidential candidate earlier this week.
However, while Birol Aydın from the Felicity Party drew attention to the statements about Kılıçdaroğlu’s meeting with the HDP on the live broadcast, it was claimed that IYI Party leader Meral Akşener said that other parties did not oppose meeting with the HDP, but that she would not participate in such a dialogue.
Sources speaking to Reuters said Deva and Future Parties are open to talks with HDP. It was also recalled in the news that the HDP had previously thought of nominating their own candidate, but are now considering this idea.
