Army misses target, shoots civilians
Three people were killed by a mortar shell fired during military training in India, falling behind its target and hitting the village house.
The incident took place in the village of Gulvared in the Gaya region of Bihar province in the east of the country.
The mortar shell fired from the nearby military training ground fell behind its target and hit the courtyard of the village house.
In the incident, the couple and their neighbors were killed and two others injured while visiting their parents to celebrate the Hindu festival “Holi.” The army has not yet ruled on the matter.
There were other accidents near the military zone in question. Last year, a civilian was killed by a shell near the training ground.
In the other incident, which occurred in December, 10 people collecting firewood near the training ground were injured. (AA)
