Trump is one of three Republican Party members to run for president next year. Since Trump was elected president in 2016, he has dominated the conference of conservative and right-wing leaders.
Broad support
One American news channel called CPAC “a Trump party” with numerous outlets for things like Trump caps or T-shirts with “Make America Great Again” on them. In a poll of Republican participants on Saturday, 62% supported Trump for president and just 20% supported his main party rival Ron DeSantis. In third place was Michigan businessman Perry Johnson.
Republican former South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley and businessman and activist Vivek Ramaswamy also ran for president on behalf of the party, but played minor roles in the CPAC. DeSantis did not show. He would like to apply by the end of the year.
Bolsonaro
One foreign guest at the CPAC was former Brazilian president Jair Bolsonaro. He spoke to the conference with a message about a Trump-like political comeback. “I am grateful to God for the mission of being president of Brazil, but I feel that the mission is not over yet.” Bolsonaro fled to Florida after losing the election last year.
