Humanitarian crisis in Somalia: Tens of thousands have fled their homes

At least 100,000 people had to leave their homes due to clashes that have been going on in the city of Las Anod since February 6 between Somaliland forces, which declared its unilateral independence from Somalia, and the opposition.

Abdimajid Hüseyin Sugulle, one of the doctors at the Manhal Hospital, said in statements to the press that the humanitarian crisis has increased in the region. Sugulle announced that at least 100,000 people had to leave their homes as a result of the clashes.

While the death toll rose to 150 from the clashes that broke out in Las Anod, the number of wounded exceeded a thousand.

The United Nations announced that thousands of Somalis have taken refuge in Ethiopia due to the conflict.

The opposition in Somaliland, which has unilaterally declared independence from the northern Somali country, wants the Sool, Sanaag and Ceyni regions to be separated from Somaliland and connected to the Somali state. (AA)
