The six political parties have agreed to unite to defeat incumbent President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and his AK Party in elections to be held on May 14. Five parties want Kemal Kilicdaroglu, the leader of the centre-left Republican People’s Party (CHP), to confront Erdogan. The IYI party does not like this and proposes the mayors of Istanbul and Ankara.

Forced

According to IYI party leader Meral Aksener, her party is forced to accept Kilicdaroglu’s choice. Aksener says she won’t bow to that. You called on the mayors of Istanbul and Ankara to “fulfil their duty” and accused Kilicdaroglu of putting his personal aspirations before those of the country.

Turkey will go to the polls in May, three months after devastating earthquakes that killed more than 45,000 people in the country. Despite criticism of the Turkish government in the aftermath of the earthquakes, Erdogan’s AK Party maintains popular support, according to election polls released on Friday.
