The passage of Jerusalem that will cause a crisis from the EU country
Israeli media reported that Hungary plans to move its embassy in Israel to Jerusalem.
According to the Times of Israel newspaper, Hungary’s far-right Prime Minister Viktor Orban has given the green light to his plan to move the embassy to Jerusalem next month. If the plan goes through, Hungary will be the first EU country to move its embassy to Jerusalem.
Speaking to Reuters, Hungarian Foreign Ministry spokesman Mate Paczolay stated that they moved their business units to Jerusalem years ago and further steps will be announced soon.
TURKEY-ISRAEL RELATIONS HAVE BROKEN DOWN
Many countries do not recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel and consider East Jerusalem to be occupied Palestinian territory.
Despite the backlash, former US President Donald Trump’s recognition of Jerusalem as Israel’s official capital in 2017 and his decision to move the US embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem sparked a major crisis. Many people lost their lives in the Palestinian protests.
This crisis also led to a break in relations between Turkey and Israel, with Turkey summoning the Israeli ambassador to Ankara in early 2018. President Tayyip Erdoğan told Trump: “This is the logic of ‘we didn’t know you, we did.’ . Are you saying that? We don’t know you either.”
Turkey and Israel announced in August that they had decided to normalize relations.
