Investigation of US Attorney George Santos for sexual harassment

Investigation of US Attorney George Santos for sexual harassment

The Ethics Committee of the House of Representatives, the lower house of Congress, ruled on the investigation carried out on the congressman from the third district of New York, the Republican George Santos.

The committee reported that Santos is being investigated on charges including engaging in illegal activities related to the 2022 election campaign, failing to provide accurate information about himself to the House, violating federal conflict of interest laws at his former institution, and sexually harassing someone who wants to work in his office.

It was noted that the parliamentary investigation does not mean that the deputy has committed these crimes, and that no comment will be made on this matter unless the commission complies with the rules.

The speaker of the House of Representatives, Kevin McCarthy, confirmed on February 7 that representative Santos would be investigated by the House Ethics Committee. Stating that if anything comes out of the Ethics Committee’s investigation, they will take action regarding Santos’ situation, McCarthy said, “Because of the issues that have come up, we do not allow Santos to sit on Assembly committees.”

LIE ON LIE

Republican Santos, who was elected as a congressman in New York’s November 8, 2022 midterm elections, claimed that he graduated from Baruch College and New York University (NYU) during the election campaign. According to the New York Times story, NYU officials announced that there was no record of Santos in the university’s archives.

Also denied were allegations that Santos had worked for Goldman Sachs and Citigroup inside Wall Street, which he also voiced during the election campaign.

Santos, who claimed to be an “honorable Jew” during the election period but turned out to be a Catholic, said: “I am a Catholic. Since I found out that my mother’s side is of Jewish origin, I said ‘I am a Jew.'”

In addition, the fact that a group raised money for the electoral campaign without being registered with the Federal Electoral Commission (FEC) and the appearance of information about the sudden increase in his personal wealth between 2020-2022 brought up accusations that Santos could have careless. financing laws.

Santos, whose resignation requests were made by Democrats and party members in the constituency, said he would not resign and would continue his duty unaffected by the allegations. Santos announced Jan. 31 that he would temporarily step down from the newly appointed House Committee on Small Business and the Committee on Technology and Space until things were resolved.

Finally, a person named Derek Myers, who said he worked for a short time in Santos’s office, claimed that the deputy sexually harassed him. (AA)
