Speaking to reporters after the visit, Ambassador Meyer-Landrut expressed his condolences to the Turkish people and the people of Kırıkhan, stating that these devastating earthquakes affected everyone and him personally.

Noting that the field hospital in Kırıkhan demonstrates the cooperation between EU institutions and member states, Meyer-Landrut said that the field hospital is very impressive and professional.

Noting that many EU member states supported Turkey through search and rescue and medical teams after the earthquake, Meyer-Landrut said: “We will provide more humanitarian aid. But we must also think beyond humanitarian aid. We have to think especially about restructuring and reconstruction and the needs in that regard”. saying.

Meyer-Landrut stated that she will host a donor conference with Sweden, the EU Commission’s mandate chair, in the second half of March, saying: “Turkey will be supported by mobilizing the opportunities of the international community. Turkey can always count on our support and solidarity. Both now and later.” he said.

Ambassador Huynen said they were shocked by the devastating earthquakes in Turkey.

Stating that a significant number of Turks lived in Belgium and that the first thing that was felt after the earthquake was the feeling of solidarity between Turkey and Belgium, Huynen recalled that his country had established its field hospital in Kırıkhan through B-FAST. and with the support of the United States.

Huynen emphasized that Belgium has set up one of the 4 field hospitals in Turkey by the EU member states and that they are working with all national and local authorities in Turkey.

Noting that Belgium donated 10,000 sleeping bags in addition to the field hospital, Huynen said: “It is very important that Belgium supports EU solidarity to support Turkey and help Turkey after these earthquakes.” she performed her assessment.

EU Civil Protection Mechanism deputy team leader Nas stated that more than 40 teams consisting of search and rescue and health experts from 20 EU member countries arrived in the region after the earthquake.

Nas stated that Belgium, Italy, France and Spain have established 4 field hospitals in seismic zones.

Stating that search and rescue teams have returned to their countries, Nas noted that EU humanitarian aid to the region will continue.

EU Office for Civil Protection and Humanitarian Aid (ECHO) Turkey President Velly stated that ECHO had an office previously established in Gaziantep and that they took action from the first day of the earthquake.

Velly stated that the destruction caused by the earthquake was enormous and that, as ECHO, they were considering mobilizing more resources to provide more support to the region.

2,000 PATIENTS TREATED

Ruben Hausendonck, a doctor at the Belgian field hospital in Kırıkhan, stated that when the hospital was established, they treated 100 patients per day, and this number has increased to 200 at the moment.

Hausendonck stated that they have treated 2,000 patients at the field hospital since February 16, when it began operating, and that 5 children have been born here so far. (AA)
