Russia reacts to new EU sanctions
Kremlin spokesman Dmitriy Peskov said the new EU sanctions against Russia are “absurd”. Speaking to reporters in the capital Moscow, Peskov assessed the 10th package of sanctions imposed by the EU against Russia.
Noting that Tatyana Moskalkova, the Russian Human Rights Commissioner, who participated in the prisoner swap, was also on the sanctions list, Peskov said:
“Of course, this is all nonsense. Obviously, people who are not clear, who have nothing to do with the sanctions issue, are included to create the sanctions lists. On the other hand, there are successful people on the lists. The inclusion of these people on the sanctions list does not bother them. I’m sure of that. It is obvious that the number of people who will be sanctioned by the West is insufficient.”
‘CHINA’S PLAN IS ATTENTION’
Referring to China’s peace plan for the resolution of the Ukraine issue, Peskov said: “Any attempt to develop plans that contribute to the peaceful resolution of the issue is noteworthy. We are also handling our Chinese friends’ plan very carefully,” he said.
Stating that the details of the plan must be analyzed and the interests of the parties must be taken into account, Peskov stressed that this is a “long” and “tense” process. “At the moment, we do not see any preconditions for this event to move towards peace. The special military operation continues. We are advancing towards the established objectives”. he said.
Referring to the situation in the Transnistria region, which is located in Moldova and unilaterally declared its independence, Peskov emphasized that the situation here is alarming and is being closely watched, saying: “We know that the Kiev regime and our competitors in European countries can make various provocations”.
On February 23, the Russian Defense Ministry claimed that Ukraine was preparing an “armed” provocation against the Transnistria region and deploying soldiers and weapons to the border to invade the region. In the statement made by the Ministry of Defense of Moldova, it was stated that the situation in the Transnistria region was closely monitored and that there was no direct threat to the military security of the state at the moment.
