New statement from the US, which issued a travel warning for Istanbul
The US Embassy made a new statement on its official Twitter account regarding the attack warning against Istanbul, which was on the agenda last month.
Warnings of attacks on Istanbul last month by some countries, including the US, sparked tensions between Turkey and Western countries. The embassies of the US, Germany, France and Italy in Ankara warned their citizens that there could be a possible attack in Istanbul.
Some countries had temporarily closed their consulates in Istanbul for security reasons.
Reacting to this situation, Turkey called the ambassadors and representatives of 9 countries that closed their diplomatic representations before the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu also said: “We believe that these statements and closures have a purpose.”
The Embassy of the United States issued a new statement today on its official Twitter account. The statement included the following:
“We would like to express our gratitude and respect to the Turkish Police, who recently eliminated specific terrorist threats in Taksim, Istiklal and Galata. Thanks to his work, these districts continue to be a place where visitors are warmly welcomed and represent Turkey.
There will always be difficulties. We also invite our visitors to constantly check the latest developments. Just as the Americans stood in solidarity with the Turks against terrorism, we once again wholeheartedly support #Turkey at this time of great destruction, and together with our allies and partners, we want to help Turkey recover after the earthquake.”
