70 people from Imran Khan’s party were arrested
According to Geo News television, the “Bharo Tehreek Jail” protests, which Khan launched on February 22 to counter attacks on fundamental rights guaranteed by the Constitution and the economic crisis, continue.
Following protests in Lahore, Peshawar and Multan, a similar action took place in the city of Gujranvala.
In the action in Gujranvala, 70 PTI supporters, including civil servants, were arrested and turned themselves in to the police “to draw attention to lawlessness”.
PTI Vice President Chaudri Favad Hussein, in his Twitter post, claimed that more than 200 party members were being held in various prisons in Lahore and Rawalpindi.
In a statement on Twitter, PTI leader Khan reacted by saying that the government treats political prisoners detained as part of the protest as “criminals and terrorists.”
During the protest held in Lahore on February 22, PTI Vice President and former Foreign Minister Shah Mahmoud Qureshi, PTI General Secretary Asad Umar and former Railway Minister Azam Khan Svati, one of the leading party figures.
IT IS APPLIED FOR THE FIRST TIME AGAINST THE CIVIL ADMINISTRATION
A similar type of protest took place during the military rule of the former Pakistani president, General Mohammed Zia’ul-Haq.
However, this form of protest is being used for the first time in the country’s history against a civilian government.
THE GOVERNMENT OF IMRAN KHAN HAS FALLEN
In Pakistan’s parliament on April 10, 2022, in the confidence vote, Imran Khan’s government fell with 174 votes in favor.
Shahbaz Sharif, brother of Nawaz Sharif, who served as prime minister for three terms in the country, was elected prime minister with the support of an absolute majority with 174 votes in the parliamentary elections held on April 11. (AA)
