Empty fruit and vegetable shelves in England

Empty fruit and vegetable shelves in England

In the United Kingdom, the supermarket chains Asda, Morrisons and Tesco have restricted the sale of some products due to problems in the supply of fresh fruit and vegetables from North Africa and Spain.

Asda said sales of items such as tomatoes, peppers and lettuce are limited to three per customer, while Morrisons announced on Tuesday it would limit sales of cucumbers and sundries in its stores to two per customer.

At Tesco, too, sales of tomatoes, peppers and cucumbers are limited to three per customer.

Customers are said to have struggled to find some products in recent days, while photos of the market’s empty shelves are frequently shared on social media.

Another reason for the problem is the cessation of production in the country’s greenhouses due to rising energy costs.
