Ukraine dispute at G-20 meeting
The meeting, which was hosted by India and held on the first day of the anniversary of the Russian invasion of Ukraine, was completed today.
In the final document released at the end of the meeting, it was stated that no agreement could be reached on the war in Ukraine.
The final statement comes after the G7, consisting of seven leading industrial nations, announced new sanctions against Russia yesterday.
US Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen condemned the “illegal and unjust war against Ukraine” at a session attended by Russian officials, reiterating calls for G-20 countries to do more to support Ukraine and thwart Moscow’s war effort.
THEY DECLARED WAR
At the last major G-20 meeting in Bali, Indonesia, in November, leaders strongly condemned the war, warning that the war in Ukraine has increased vulnerabilities in the world economy.
India’s G20 presidency began on December 1, 2022. New Delhi will host the 18th G20 Leaders’ Summit, taking place on September 9-10. (AA)
