Mediterranean alert from Italy
According to the news from the Italian agency ANSA, Admiral Credendino attended the meeting of the Defense Committee of the House of Representatives and informed the deputies about the situation in the Mediterranean.
Credendino stated that the effects of the war in Ukraine were reflected on its own security and on the seas, adding: “The number of elements attached to the Russian fleet in the Mediterranean and the Black Sea has impressively increased to a level that was not seen even in the days of the Cold War.” saying.
Noting that although there are high numbers, this situation is not a direct threat to the national territory, but rather increases tension, Credendino said: “The Russians have an aggressive attitude that was previously seen in the Baltic but unusual in the Mediterranean. ” he said.
The commander of the Italian naval forces stated that elements of the Russian navy were seen around the Ionian Sea, saying: “There is a risk of an event, and you never know where it will lead when such an event occurs.” he made the comment of him.
Credendino noted that despite the Russian military presence, NATO allies Italy, France, the US have aircraft carriers and Spain has an amphibious ship in the Mediterranean, and that the Mediterranean is crowded in that regard.
Noting that the Russian ship, which took part in the exercise off South Africa and is said to have hypersonic missiles, is heading to the Mediterranean, the Italian admiral said: “The situation is complex and turbulent. The risk of being hit is high.” saying.
Credendino also shared the information that until a few weeks ago there were 15 Russian ships and 3 submarines in the Mediterranean, some of which returned to Russia, and that there are currently about 10 ships. (AA)
