NATO’s harsh response to Putin’s words: Preparing for more war
NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg considered the suspension of Russia’s participation in the New START agreement as the collapse of the entire arms control architecture and called on Russia to reconsider its decision.
Stoltenberg spoke at the joint press conference after meeting with Ukraine’s Foreign Minister Dmitro Kuleba and the European Union (EU) High Representative for Foreign Relations and Security Policy Josep Borrell at the headquarters of the NATO.
Assessing Russian President Vladimir Putin’s decision to suspend the New START agreement, Stoltenberg said he regrets this decision.
“In recent years, Russia has violated or abandoned key arms control agreements,” Stoltenberg said. With today’s decision on the new START, the entire arms control architecture has collapsed. “I strongly recommend Russia to reconsider its decision and respect existing agreements,” he said.
In his speech today, Putin said that Russia would suspend its participation in New START with the United States, which is aimed at curbing its nuclear intercontinental ballistic missile capabilities.
“RUSSIA WANTS TO CONTINUE THE WAR”
Stoltenberg also spoke clearly about Putin’s statements accusing Western countries.
“No one is attacking Russia,” Stoltenberg said. Russia is the aggressor. Putin is increasing tensions. “Putin has shown today that he wants to continue the war,” he said. (AGENCIES)
