Meeting with Blinken, Greek Prime Minister: Our ties with the Turks are inseparable

US Secretary of State Antony Blinken met with Prime Minister Kiriakos Mitsotakis in Greece, where he went yesterday after his visit to Turkey.

Earthquakes that caused great destruction in 11 provinces of Turkey were also on the agenda of the meeting. Despite tense relations, Greek Prime Minister Mitsotakis, who was quick to support Turkey after the earthquakes, also referred to Turkey in his meeting with Blinken.

Noting that they will also talk about regional issues with Blinken, Miçotakis said: “You came from Turkey. “We are all very sorry for the humanitarian disaster that struck our neighbor,” he said. The Greek Prime Minister continued:

“We were the first country to send rescue teams to help. I believe that this terrible disaster has shown that there is a deep bond between our peoples. We may have important political differences, but the bond between our peoples is unbreakable. I hope this is an opportunity to improve our relations and I think it will benefit stability in the Eastern Mediterranean.”

Blinken also noted that they are very pleased with Greece’s support for Ukraine and its contribution to stability in the Eastern Mediterranean. The US Secretary of State also thanked Greece for its support of Turkey.

Blinken is scheduled to meet today with Greek Foreign Minister Nikos Dendias and the leader of the main opposition party, SYRIZA, Alexis Tsipras.
