Two weeks after the strong earthquakes in southern Turkey, the Turkish-Syrian border area was hit by another earthquake. According to the European Seismological Center (EMSC), it had a magnitude of 6.4. Witnesses say there is fresh damage to buildings in Antakya, the capital of Turkey’s Hatay province.
The epicenter of the earthquake was 14 kilometers southwest of Antakya, at a depth of about 10 kilometers. Witnesses to the Reuters news agency say that tremors were felt in Syria, Egypt and Lebanon.
Hatay is one of the provinces most affected by previous earthquakes. On Sunday, Turkey suspended relief efforts in all provinces except Hatay and Kahramanmaras.
