EU to organize donor conference for earthquake victims
Tobias Billström, Foreign Minister of Sweden, the term president of the European Union (EU), announced the date of the donors’ conference to be held in Brussels, the capital of Belgium, for March 16, to collect donations from the international community for earthquake victims in Turkey and Syria after the earthquakes centered on Kahramanmaraş.
Billström made a statement on the earthquakes in Kahramanmaraş at the entrance of the meeting of the Council on Foreign Relations, which brought together the foreign ministers of the EU countries. Billström claimed that his country “wants to do everything possible to deal with the devastating earthquake” during his EU presidency and announced that the donors’ conference, previously announced for early next month, will take place on 16 March.
Tobias Billström said that the conference will be held together with the EU Commission and aims to mitigate the terrible consequences of the earthquake as much as possible.
“We expect a high level of participation in this conference, and we hope to raise more money to do the best for the people of Turkey and Syria,” said Billström, the Swedish Foreign Minister. (AA)
