A weekly press conference was held at the UN Office in Geneva, moderated by Spokesperson Alessandra Vellucci.

The spokesman for the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), Jens Laerke, recalled that the UN requested 1 billion dollars in humanitarian aid for the victims of the earthquake in Turkey and said that it aimed to help 5.2 millions of people.

Noting that they have started a $400 million humanitarian aid appeal for Syria, Laerke said that $54 million has been raised so far in their bank accounts.

“So far (from February 9 to 16) 143 trucks of humanitarian aid have entered Syria from the northern border.” Laerke said this will continue.

“THE SYRIAN PEOPLE NEEDS INTERNATIONAL SOLIDARITY MORE THAN EVER”

The spokesperson for the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC), Caroline Holt, stated that access to safe drinking water and sanitation in earthquake zones is essential and noted the importance of support in this regard. .

Pointing out that the citizens of Syria are very vulnerable after 12 years of civil war, Holt said: “The Syrian people need international solidarity now more than ever.” saying.

Holt recalled that IFRC General Secretary Jagan Chapagain is currently in Gaziantep and had previously visited Aleppo. (AA)
