WHO earthquake alert

The World Health Organization (WHO) announced that it is concerned about the lack of necessary aid for northwestern Syria, which was affected by the earthquakes centered in Kahramanmaraş.

“It is very clear that the area of greatest concern right now is northwestern Syria,” WHO Global Emergency Director Mike Ryan told reporters. Mentioning that the regime-controlled regions in Syria were also affected by the earthquake, Ryan mentioned that only people can access the services available there.

Ryan said: “We have to remember that there has been a war that has been going on for 10 years in Syria. “The health system is incredibly fragile,” he said.

Mentioning the importance of temporarily opening some border gates within the scope of humanitarian aid, Ryan said the focus is on people’s needs right now.

The WHO announced that it increased its call for support from $43 million to $84.5 million for works in Turkey and Syria, which were affected by the earthquakes. (AA)
