Criticism rained down on the Pakistani prime minister, who went to Turkey in solidarity after the earthquake
Following the earthquake disaster in which tens of thousands of people lost their lives, Pakistani Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif made a statement yesterday and announced that he would travel to Turkey.
Sharif, who claimed on Twitter that he would go to the region in solidarity with Turkey, was also expected to meet President Erdogan in Ankara, while the Pakistani people reacted strongly to Sharif’s remarks.
After Sharif’s exchange, many Pakistani citizens pointed out that there was a major economic crisis in their country and demanded that they be given priority. Local media covered the development with the headline “Prime Minister Sherif called on people to ‘save their own country first’ on the way to Turkey where the earthquake occurred.
The Pakistan rescue team continues its work.
While some social media users commented, “It’s funny that you don’t show solidarity with poor people in your own country and go meet people while you’re busy saving your own country,” while another user said, “He’s dying to go to Turkey. From where? Why is people’s money spent when there is an economic crisis in the country?
The exchange made by the Prime Minister became the agenda of his country.
Another user said: “Prime Minister, you don’t need to go there. The situation in Pakistan is very bad. Before the poor die in your country, save them. The Turks and the Syrians are our brothers, but their visit will not change anything.”
Şerif was preparing to go to Turkey on February 8, two days after the earthquakes, whose epicenter was Kahramanmaraş. However, after the earthquake disaster, Sharif decided to postpone his visit.
