Strange underground sounds in India cause earthquake panic

In India, where the destruction caused by the earthquakes in Turkey is closely watched, strange sounds coming from underground created panic.

According to the Indian press, the inhabitants of the city of Latur, in the state of Maharashtra, in the west of the country, experienced great fear due to the voices coming from the subsoil. The inhabitants of the city took to the streets thinking that the sounds were the precursors of the earthquake.

The origin of the voices heard yesterday morning was cause for curiosity. Although many people reported the situation to the local administration, the authorities contacted earthquake monitoring institutions and examined the seismic movements in the region.

As a result of the investigations, the authorities reported that there was no seismic activity in the region. Sakib Usmani, head of the city’s disaster management unit, said similar voices have been heard in recent weeks and investigations will continue.

An earthquake in the region in 1993 killed about 10,000 people.
