Russia’s search and rescue efforts in the region ended
Kurenkov, in an online conversation with search and rescue teams in the earthquake area, said that Russia was one of the first countries to come to the aid of people in Turkey and Syria affected by the earthquakes.
Noting that the Russian teams were sent to the earthquake zone as soon as possible on the instructions of Russian President Vladimir Putin, Kurenkov stated that the teams began search and rescue operations in the most difficult areas from February 6, the day of the earthquake.
Saying that a team of 200 people, including psychologists and specially trained dogs, works in Turkey and Syria, Kurenkov said that he constantly informs Putin about the studies.
Kurenkov also shared the information that joint work was carried out with the Belarusian and Kyrgyz teams.
Noting that the work of the search and rescue teams has finished, Kurenkov said that heavy construction equipment has already arrived in the region to remove the rubble.
“In this context, Russian President Putin has decided to withdraw the search and rescue teams from the Emergencies Ministry,” Kurenkov said.
Russian teams in Turkey reported that they rescued 6 people from the rubble and helped 830 injured during search and rescue efforts after the magnitude 7.7 and 7.6 earthquakes in Kahramanmaraş.
In the statement made on the social media account of the Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations, it was noted that the teams in Turkey collected 740 cubic meters of rubble and removed 8,400 cubic meters of rubble with a construction machine.
It was claimed that the Russian Emergency Situations Ministry delivered 36 tons of humanitarian aid to Turkey and 70 tons of humanitarian aid to Syria with the “Il-76” aircraft model. (AA)
