Housing aid from Finland to Turkey

Finland sent aid for 3,000-capacity shelters to Turkey after the earthquakes centered on Kahramanmaraş.

According to a written statement from the Finnish Ministry of the Interior, emergency accommodation assistance was provided to 3,000 people after the earthquakes in Kahramanmaraş. The first part of the aid was delivered on February 11 through NATO’s Euro-Atlantic Disaster Response Coordination Center, while emergency supplies sent to Turkey include heated tents and stoves.

The Finnish Ministries of the Interior and Defense worked together on the logistics of the aid. Sending teams to the region for rescue work, 3 experts from Finland are involved in the rescue work as part of the European Union Civil Protection Team and 4 experts as part of the Technical Support Team.

Finnish Interior Minister Krista Mikkonen said in a written statement: “As far as we know, tens of thousands of people have been killed and the destruction is enormous. There is a great need for shelter in the areas affected by the earthquake. Finland aims to meet people’s basic needs by sending material aid,” she said.

Finland, which is preparing financial aid for those affected by the earthquake in Syria, stresses the importance of rescue and debris removal activities after the earthquake. (AA)
