Turkish students living in Switzerland raised funds by selling cakes
It has been announced that the aid raised by Çalışkan and Şahin, fourth grade primary school students born and raised in Switzerland, will be donated to the region.
Saying that he first saw the earthquakes in Turkey on TV, 10-year-old Çalışkan said that this made him very sad.
Caliskan said: “I put myself in the shoes of the people affected by the earthquake and was able to understand them a little better. I thought about what I could do to help them and this idea came to mind. First, I collected my unused books and toys to sell. I wanted to make something that adults could take away from me and I finally made a cake with my mom.” saying.
Stating that the Swiss who bought the cakes received them very well and said they did “something good”, Çalışkan claimed that some of them helped the earthquake victims without buying anything.
Stating that they will continue to bake and sell cakes, Çalışkan said that they will also sell toys and stationery to support the earthquake victims.
Caliskan said, “We collected 725 Swiss francs (approximately 15,000 lira) in total on the first day. When we set up our stand for the first time, I was thinking of charging 300 or 500 francs at the most. A number came out that I never expected and this made me very happy”.
Şahin said that they felt sorry for the people in the earthquake area and that he and his cousin started selling cakes to support the earthquake victims.
“When the Swiss saw us selling cakes to help the earthquake victims, they smiled and congratulated us. Some of them gave money and bought cakes, and some gave support without buying anything,” said 11-year-old Şahin, expressing that he was excited and happy as he did this.
Şahin stated that they will continue to support the earthquake victims in Turkey by selling cakes and toys. (AA)
