The damage caused by Monday’s earthquakes in Turkey could amount to just under 80 billion euros. This assessment was made by the Turkish business association Turkonfed. This amount would amount to about one-tenth of the total size of the Turkish economy.
Turkonfed estimates that the collapsed houses cause damage of around 65.5 billion euros. The loss of national income, because people cannot work and factories and agricultural areas are damaged, amounts to about 9.7 billion euros. Added to this are damage to infrastructure such as roads, electricity, gas and oil pipelines, as well as means of communication, schools and hospitals.
