First shipment of earthquake relief leaves China
Huseyin Emre Ergin, Turkey’s consul general in Shanghai, reported that the first shipment of 80 tons of 40,000 blankets provided by China’s Ministry of Commerce left Shanghai.
Stating that two more shipments are planned from Shanghai tomorrow and on February 15, Ergin stated that these shipments will also focus on disaster tents, medical devices and materials.
Emphasizing that Chinese institutions and organizations show great interest in aid, Ergin noted that they give priority to cold-protection materials, heating devices and medical equipment.
The China International Development Cooperation Agency (CIDCA) said it plans to ship 1,000 woven cotton tents, electrocardiography and ultrasound instruments, medical transport vehicles and portable beds for patients in the coming days.
The Chinese Embassy in Ankara also stated that their help will not be limited to this and that they will continue to deliver the necessary materials to Turkey.
The plane carrying the aid is expected to land at Istanbul airport at 13:40 CEST. (AA)
