Maltese teams continue to work in Malatya

Search and rescue efforts by AFAD, UMKE, firefighters, 112 Emergency Health, police, gendarmerie and non-governmental organizations continue in the buildings destroyed in the 7.7 and 7.6 magnitude earthquakes in Kahramanmaraş.

The Maltese search and rescue team, which arrived in the city on the second day of the earthquake and started its work, accompanies the Turkish teams in the rubble of the city center. There are 32 staff members and 1 dog in the team that arrived in Turkey from Malta and took part in the search and rescue efforts in Malatya. With the help of search dogs, the teams are trying to reach the people under the rubble at different points in the city.

One of the team’s leaders, Charies Grima, said they took action as soon as they heard about the earthquake in Turkey, and have been searching and rescuing the wreckage since the day they arrived in Malatya.

Thanking the Turkish people, Grima said: “First of all, we would like to thank the people here. We only came to help, but when we are in the field, the Turks provide all kinds of help and treats. Here we work under the coordination of AFAD. Wherever help is needed, we go. We see the worst of the situation, so we rush to help. “We come from a small country, but we try to help as much as we can,” she said.

Expressing his wishes that the Turkish people recover soon, Grima said, “I wish you to believe, keep your faith, help each other, take care of each other and recover from this disaster as soon as possible.”

David Cassar, one of the team leaders, said: “I sincerely wish all countries to help Turkey. I wish that those who are here help each other and that the city and the people recover as soon as possible, ”he said. (AA)
