PvdA MEP: ‘Training Ukrainians for the modern fighter aircraft of tomorrow’ Related articles

The call of Ukrainian President Volodimir Zelenski to also supply fighter planes is heard by PvdA MEP Thijs Reuten. “These planes are ultimately also needed to ensure that Ukrainian airspace belongs to Ukrainians again and can be protected.”

Zelenski’s question probably reached his speaking audience well too, Reuten thinks. “I think he’s made some progress with the British, but also in Europe. Even our Prime Minister Rutte always says that there are no taboos, and not even on this one”. Reuten wants the whole EU to look at how delivery can be made. “We need to look at who is best placed to deliver what type of aircraft at any given time.”

Start workouts quickly

Reuten also wants Ukrainians trained as soon as possible to be able to fly fighter jets. “Let’s start tomorrow, because sooner or later they’ll have to fly those modern planes anyway. Start with those workouts and don’t make the same mistakes as with tanks, because we’ve been discussing it for six months. And this while we knew it was necessary.’
