The largest search and rescue operation of the European Union in Turkey and Syria
In the statement made yesterday by the EU Commission, it was stressed that the Civil Protection Mechanism was activated after the two major earthquakes on February 6 and that through this mechanism the largest search and rescue operation of the history of the EU.
It was also indicated that the EU is also preparing for humanitarian aid and will provide blankets, tents and heaters to Germany, Lithuania and Slovenia, in addition to the crew and humanitarian aid sent so far.
The EU Commission-affiliated institution for Civil Protection and Humanitarian Aid shared the map of EU aid efforts in Turkey’s regions, noting that EU teams have coordination centers in Kahramanmaraş, Adıyaman, Malatya, Gaziantep, Adana and Hatay.
It was highlighted that until yesterday, 1,485 rescuers from 20 European Union countries, most of them from Turkey, were on the ground with 100 search and rescue dogs.
