The British analyzed the houses destroyed in the earthquake: If done right…

The British media published a lengthy article about the earthquakes in Turkey, which caused extensive damage in 10 cities and was felt in neighboring countries. In news from the official British media organization BBC, it was claimed that reaction to the failure of buildings in the earthquake zone that were built in accordance with earthquake regulations and the demolition of many newly built buildings is increasing.

On BBC news, “anger over the demolition of many buildings in recent earthquakes is mounting. The BBC has confirmed that recently built buildings have been demolished. A building in Malatya, which was completed last year and announced on social media as “It was built in accordance with the latest earthquake regulations”, is seen to have been demolished.

While another building completed in 2019 in Iskenderun is claimed to have been demolished, another building built in Antakya in 2019 is seen to have been demolished from the photographs confirmed by the BBC. “Although earthquakes are strong, experts say that well-constructed buildings can survive,” he commented in the BBC report.

“THE EARTHQUAKE WAS HIGH BUT…”

Speaking to the BBC, Professor David Alexander, an expert in planning and emergency management at London College University, said: “The peak intensity of the earthquakes was very high, but not strong enough to destroy well-constructed buildings. “In many areas, the intensity of the earthquake was not maximum, and yet the collapse of buildings shows that they were not carried out in accordance with the corresponding regulations,” he said.

While the BBC reported that earthquake regulation has been tightened in recent years, it also stated that this regulation has not been properly audited.
