Taiwanese president to donate his salary to Turkey

Taiwan President Tsai Ing-wen and Vice President William Lai said they will donate their monthly salaries to Turkey for earthquake relief aid.

According to the BBC report, in a statement made by the Presidential Office, it was stated that “Taiwan hopes to do its part to help Turkey rebuild the country.”

Taiwan had previously announced that it would provide $2 million in aid to Turkey and had sent two search-and-rescue teams. Huang Po Chun, the head of the Taiwanese team, recalled that after the 1999 earthquake in Taiwan, teams from Turkey came to help them.

Chun thanked Turkey for its help and said, “We just arrived right now. We ran to help. We are here as a thanks from 1999. We learned about search and rescue thanks to the Turkish teams,” he said.
