Biden Earthquake Statement: One of the Biggest Earthquakes in 100 Years
Biden spoke in Wisconsin, where he visited to explain his economic plans.
Biden began his speech by saying that the thoughts and prayers of the American people are with those affected by the earthquakes in Turkey and Syria, saying, “This is one of the largest earthquakes in the region in over 100 years.”
Biden stated that they are mourning the loss of life and said it was incredible to see the bodies of earthquake victims being pulled out from under the piles of rubble. “The earthquake was incredibly strong, there were significant aftershocks and a second earthquake,” Biden said, noting that his thoughts are with those affected by this tragedy.
“WE START HELPING FROM THE FIRST DAY”
Biden said he called President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan right after the earthquake and said the United States offered its full support, including search and rescue teams, to NATO ally Turkey. President Biden said that the United States Agency for International Development and the United States military in Europe are also ready to help in the earthquake zone in Turkey.
Biden claimed that the US helped those affected by the earthquake in Syria through humanitarian aid organizations and claimed that they started relief activities from day one.
Biden said the United States is a major donor to saving human lives “regardless of who controls the area” in Syria. “We are steadfast in our commitment to stand with the people of Turkey and Syria in times of need,” President Biden said. (AA)
