10 tons of aid from Turks in England
Turkish associations in England, which organized after the earthquakes in Kahramanmaraş, collected 10 tons of relief materials in one day and sent them to Turkey.
Relief materials and winter products donated by 35 member associations of the British Association of Turkish Associations and individuals and organizations not under the umbrella of the Union gathered at the Karahasanlılar Association in Haggerston, London.
At the association’s building in London, where the Turks came, all the women volunteers classified the products according to gender and type, while the men were in charge of packing and transporting the packages. Turkey’s Ambassador to London Ümit Yalçın, who inspected the works at the association’s building where many products are collected from shoes to blankets, coats and baby diapers, wished the volunteers good luck and thanked them for their work.
Yalçın, who made a statement about those who sorted, packed and transported the relief material here, pointed out that since the earthquake, everyone was fighting to help, and this was a moral boost in such difficult days.
“We are proud of our community, which collects donations and aid in 5 to 6 hours.” Yalçın said that the search and rescue team promised by England left Manchester for Adana last night.
THANKS TO ENGLAND
Ambassador Yalçın said that they have organized the relief work since the earthquake and that Turkish Airlines will carry the collected relief for free. “We don’t want any of our people to feel alone. These aids are moral and support”. Yalçın thanked England for the decision to send a team of 76 people to participate in the search and rescue activities.
Erdal Yetimova, director of the Union of Turkish Associations, which organizes the relief efforts, noted that they started working in coordination with the Embassy, the Turkish Consulate General in London and Turkish Airlines since the earthquake.
Stating that the supplies were taken to the selected points, Yetimova stated that these points were the Aziziye Mosque in London, the West London Turkish Community Center and the Karahasan People’s Association.
Stating that the necessary materials and winter products have been collected, Yetimova said, “In the first stage, THY will send 10 tons to Turkey by plane. Aid collected from Luton, Leicester, Swindon and Bristol will then be delivered to Turkey at the end of the week using THY aircraft. From here, it will be delivered to AFAD and Kızılay and delivered to those who need it.” (AA)
