French parliament rejects referendum on pension reform

In France, the government pension reform bill is being discussed in the General Assembly of the National Assembly.

In the session, the proposal presented by the ultra-left party France Insoumise (LFI) to completely reject the bill was rejected with 292 “no” votes against 243 “yes” votes.

On the other hand, the proposal on the referendum request of the right-wing National Unity (RN) party on the pension reform bill was rejected with 272 “no” votes against 101.

Controversial PENSION REFORM

Prime Minister Elisabeth Borne announced that in the country where the retirement age is 62, the statutory retirement age will gradually increase by 3 months each year, starting on September 1, to 64 in 2030.

Employees in many sectors went on strike at the unions’ call against the reform, and protests were organized across the country. (AA)
