The presidential elections in southern Cyprus advanced to the second round
According to data from the Supreme Board of Elections of the SCGA, 404,022 people out of the 561,000 registered voters went to the polls and participated in the elections with 72 percent in the voting process, which began at 07:00 and ended at 6:00 p.m.
The elections were delayed to the second round to be held on Sunday, February 12, since none of the 14 candidates who competed in the first round could qualify.
Christodoulides, who will face each other in the second round of the elections, will occupy the position of the current president of the Greek Cypriot Administration, Nikos Anastasiadis, who has the majority of Mavroyannis’ votes.
INDEPENDENT CANDIDATES RECEIVED 32 PERCENT OF THE VOTES
According to the unofficial results of the Greek Cypriot elections, Nikos Christodoulidis, who was an independent candidate and received support from center-right voters, came first with 32.04 percent of the vote, and Andreas Mavroyannis, the other independent candidate. supported by the far-left Progressive Party of the Working People (AKEL), it won the right to participate in the next round with 29.60 votes.
Averof Neofitu, president and candidate of the center-right Democratic Mobilization Party (DISY), which came third in the first round of the presidential election, received 26.11 percent of the vote, while Christos Hristau, leader of the extreme right-wing and anti-National Popular Immigrant Front (ELAM), received 6.04 percent. It ranked fourth.
The other 10 candidates who participated in the elections held on to voting rates ranging from 2.1 percent to 0.04 percent.
The Greek Cypriot police announced in a statement that there were no significant public order incidents during the elections.
Nikos Anastasiadis, who has served as the chairman of the Greek Cypriot administration for 2 terms since 2013, was chosen as the DISI candidate for this task.
