Italy takes to the streets for anarchist on hunger strike

Protest marches were held across the country in solidarity with Cospito, 55, who has been on a hunger strike for more than 100 days due to being held in strict solitary confinement in prison, and to protest the strict conditions of isolation, known as “41bis” in the public.

The march, which started from Vittorio Emanuele 2, one of the busiest squares in the capital of Rome, continued to Via Prenestina under extensive security measures.

During the march, which was attended by approximately 800 people, protesters frequently lit torches and detonated sound bombs.

The security forces intervened against the demonstrators who wanted to erect barricades in the street. In the small-scale fight that broke out, 2 people were injured and 3 people were detained.

It was reported that a function for Cospito was held in this city, which was held in the Milan Opera Prison.
