The Pope’s call to ‘stop the blood’

Pope Francis, in his speech at the Presidency meeting in the capital Juba, called on the leaders of South Sudan to stop the conflicts and violence in the country: “Now is the time to put an end to this. No more bloodshed, end the violence. Do not leave your people thirsty for peace. Leave behind the period of war, let the time of peace come. he used his words.

South Sudanese President Salva Kiir Mayardit said he hoped the visit of Pope Francis would bring them peace and reconciliation.

MEETING WITH IMMIGRANTS

Pope Francis, who began his official contacts yesterday, met with internal migrants displaced by conflicts at the Freedom Hall in the capital, Cuba, after his speech at the Presidency.

Pope Francis had come to South Sudan, which has come to the fore with humanitarian crises such as ongoing famine and conflict, to meet with government officials, church leaders, civic groups and people affected by violence for years, and to make a call for peace (AA)
